Our position
The casino at Verona Court is one room in a hotel. It exists so that guests can spend an hour at a table after dinner, learn a game they have never played, or sit at the casino bar and watch. It is not a source of income for anyone but the house, and it should never become a way for a guest to solve a money problem.
For that reason our hosts are trained to watch for the point where an evening stops being enjoyable, and to act on it. We would rather lose a night's play than a guest's wellbeing.
This website carries no gambling of any kind. There is nothing here to play, nothing to stake and no payment to make.
Strictly adults only
- Admission to the Sala Fortuna begins at 18, or at the higher age where local rules set one.
- Photo identification is checked at the door on every single visit, regardless of apparent age.
- Younger members of a family may stay in the hotel and eat in both restaurants, but they cannot cross the casino threshold, even accompanied by an adult.
- Staff will refuse entry, without discussion, where ID is missing, borrowed or unclear.
What a host can arrange for you
- A time limit. Tell a host how long you intend to stay and they will come and tell you when that time is up.
- A spending ceiling. Agree a figure before you begin, and the floor team will hold you to it for the evening.
- A cooling-off period. Ask to be turned away at the door for a week, a month or a season.
- Self-exclusion. A written, confidential agreement for a fixed term, which we do not shorten on request, however persuasively it is made.
Credit is never extended at Verona Court, there is no cash machine on the casino floor, and the bar will not run a tab against the casino.
Signs worth taking seriously
- Staying longer, or spending more, than you decided before you sat down.
- Going back to win money you have already lost.
- Playing with money set aside for rent, bills or family.
- Borrowing, selling or hiding things in order to keep playing.
- Feeling restless, secretive or ashamed about how much you play.
- Choosing the casino over sleep, work or the people you came with.
If two or more of these sound familiar, speak to a host or to one of the organisations below. Nothing you say to our staff goes into a guest record.
Independent help
These services are free, confidential and entirely independent of Verona Court Casino Hotel.
- Gambling Therapy — online support groups and live chat in several languages: gamblingtherapy.org
- Gamblers Anonymous — peer meetings in most countries, in person and online: gamblersanonymous.org
- Gam-Anon — for the partners, parents and friends of someone who gambles: gam-anon.org
Reception also keeps the number of the nearest local helpline at the desk and will hand it over without being asked twice, and without a question.
Staff and training
Every member of the casino team is briefed on age checks and on how to approach a guest who is having a bad night, before their first shift on the floor. Refresher sessions run twice a year. A host who refuses to serve a guest for the rest of an evening has the full backing of the house.
